Dear Friend,

The news of the death of our beloved Bruce Kent has saddened us all. For decades Bruce has been at the heart of our work, as both leader and activist, an inspiring figure who shaped our movement at the most critical time, and whose imprint on society as a whole has been enormous. Over the last few days, tributes have been flowing in, some have come as poems, some as tweets, some as longer reflections – but all expressing love and thanks for this man who gave so much for the cause of peace and disarmament. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce’s wife Valerie.

While we mourn his loss, we also want to commemorate and celebrate Bruce’s life, and our memories of him; Bruce speaking on the big stage addressing hundreds of thousands, but also those other moments, from a local meeting, or a quick conversation on a march, or a selfie with Bruce in Trafalgar Square.

In the days ahead, CND will begin rolling out an online photographic exhibition which will also include tributes and memories. We invite you to send us your own photos and memories for inclusion – we are all part of Bruce’s peace family. Just email Padraig McCarrick, our Press Officer at [email protected], who is putting the exhibition together.

You can read some of the tributes: from Bruce's family here, on CND's website, my blog, The Guardian, Independent Catholic News, as well as in one of his local newspapers, the Hampstead & Highgate Gazette.

In due course we will announce the details of a major public event to celebrate Bruce’s life and work.

We will continue with renewed determination to achieve the goals which Bruce fought for with such energy and principle – that will be the greatest tribute that we can pay.

In peace,

Kate Hudson
General Secretary
