New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a package of 10 gun control bills into law in wake of the recent mass shootings.

The legislation, signed last Monday, sets limits on buying assault-style weapons, body armor, and other measures. New York joins various other states, including Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Vermont, and Washington, requiring buyers of semi-automatic rifles to be 21 years of age.

The Senate starts its week Monday with a procedural vote on the bipartisan bill to expand healthcare coverage for veterans exposed to toxins during their service.
The House starts its week Monday with a slate of five transportation and infrastructure bills to be considered under the fast-track “suspension of the rules” process which requires a two-thirds majority for passage.

** Inflation Hit a New 40-Year High in May at 8.6%

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that the all items consumer price index rose by 8.6% over the last 12 months through May. Inflation reached a new high dating back over 40 years to December 1981 and is more than four times the Federal Reserve’s target rate of 2%.
Fuel oil, gasoline, utility gas services, and lodging away from home have seen some of the largest price increases.
