Latest DHS Report on Overstays in 2020 Brings Mixed News
By Jessica Vaughan June 8, 2022
Excerpt: The number of overstays in 2020 went up very slightly from 2019, as did the rate of overstays. This is bad news, considering that for half of the fiscal year international travel was drastically curtailed due to the pandemic and fewer visas were issued in the second half of the year.

Leftist groups are taking cues from Biden and helping migrant caravans
By Mark Krikorian
New York Post, June 6, 2022
Excerpt: And why wouldn’t they come? Weak borders invite illegal immigration. In April, more than half of the 200,000 people Border Patrol “encountered” on the Mexican border were let go into the United States, either immediately or after brief detention. San Francisco DA Degrades Immigration Enforcement
By Andrew R. Arthur
Boudin took office in January 2020, following a stint in the public defender’s office where he “helped launch the first-ever immigration unit”. The new UK system will be easy to administer as all coming from the select 37 schools are automatically eligible. It is also a blunt tool; the valedictorian of the Ivy League’s Dartmouth, which is not on the list, does not get admitted, but someone who just barely scrapes through at Harvard, which is on the list, gets a nice welcome.

Ignoring the Reporting Mandate about the Ignored Detention Mandate
By George Fishman
The Biden administration’s stance in the MPP litigation appears to be “woe is me, if only Congress would give DHS enough money to meet its detention mandate.” Yet, the administration has apparently never even bothered to honor its other relevant mandate — to tell Congress how many resources it would need to do exactly that – which might be a sign that the administration doesn’t really want to honor its detention mandates.
Does a Detention Mandate Really Mean That Detention Is Mandatory?
By George Fishman
It is long overdue for the Executive Branch to honor IIRIRA’s mandate that aliens placed into expedited removal who claim a fear of return be detained until removed or until the completion of immigration court proceedings. Taking this step would go a long way toward ending the reality of large numbers of inadmissible aliens skipping their hearings and remaining at large in the United States unlawfully.
