John,
In 2018, Washington, D.C. passed one of the country’s most ambitious clean-energy laws. But every step of the way, the private electric utility that serves District residents, Pepco, has fought the transition to renewable energy. It’s time to fight back.
Sign our petition calling for Pepco to be replaced by a publicly owned electric utility that will advance a resilient, affordable and climate-safe energy system.
Across the United States, energy monopolies like Pepco are blocking the transition to renewable and distributed energy while subjecting customers to rampant rate hikes and electricity shutoffs. As a matter of fact, Pepco is planning to raise energy costs for residents to fund infrastructure projects that rely on dirty energy instead of moving D.C. toward the just transition we need.
Our power company should serve the public, not private profits. A publicly owned electric utility that brings residents into the decision-making process will keep the lights on, provide energy security, and advance a climate-safe energy system.
The Center for Biological Diversity is part of a coalition of community members and organizations, called We Power DC, fighting for public power in the District — and you can help.
Sign this pledge and we’ll send your signature to the District Council as part of our campaign to win public power for D.C.
