Join Us for Our “Thinking Big” Kick Off Talk with NYT’s Peter Goodman
Tuesday, June 21, 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT
At a moment of acute political, economic, and social uncertainty, please join us as we take a step back to wrestle with big ideas shaping our politics alongside some of the sharpest and most provocative authors writing about economic and political power today.
Our new, interactive “ Thinking Big [[link removed]] ” series kicks off virtually on Tuesday, June 21 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT with Peter Goodman , the global economics correspondent for The New York Times and author of Davos [[link removed]] Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World [[link removed]] . Described by NPR as “a powerful, fiery book, and it could well be an essential one,” Davos Man explains the policy mechanisms that have given rise to extreme wealth inequality, including how the ultra-rich gamed the COVID-19 pandemic to supercharge their own wealth and power. Peter’s evocative writing also describes the experiences of people who have been left behind: impoverished workers in the Gulf, non-unionized warehouse staff, and factory workers whose livelihoods were destroyed by the decline of American manufacturing.

We look forward to bringing our community together to learn, debate ideas, and ask questions through this monthly series. We also welcome suggestions on authors you’d like to hear from.
Next month, on the evening of July 19, we’ll welcome University of Michigan associate professor Elizabeth Popp Berman to discuss her recent book Thinking [[link removed]] Like an Economist: How Efficiency Replaced Equality in U.S. Public Policy [[link removed]] . And on August 16, we’re excited to feature Brandi Collins-Dexter , a visiting fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School's Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy and member of Economic Liberties’ Board of Directors, to talk about her upcoming book Black [[link removed]] Skinhead: Reflections on Blackness and Our Political Future [[link removed]] .
Thanks, and hope you’ll join us next week!
Warmly,
Sarah Miller
