New Publication! Voting Rights of Institutionalized People with Disabilities

People with disabilities have the same voting rights as other eligible citizens, whether or not they reside in an institution. In this new publication, we clarify the laws that protect the right to vote for people who are institutionalized and review the ways that eligible institutionalized people can vote and get help in the voting process.

NDRN Applauds Executive Order on Policing

NDRN applauds the Biden Administration’s Executive Order on policing which comes two years after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The Executive Order is an important move toward helping ensure safer communities while also holding law enforcement, the people entrusted with our safety, accountable for their actions. In the absence of Congressional action to address police accountability and police brutality against people with disabilities, people of color, immigrants, refugees, members of the LGBT community, and members of every religious group, this action by the Administration is more important than ever.

Resolution Reached on Use of Restraint

NDRN is pleased to learn of the resolution agreement announced between U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the Horry County Schools in South Carolina on the use of restraint and seclusion. With this resolution, Horry County Schools will take the necessary steps to ensure all children, including those with disabilities, receive an appropriate education free from unnecessary restraint, seclusion, or being needlessly removed from the classroom. This agreement was made possible by a thorough investigation by OCR.

NDRN Condemns Racially-Motivated Shooting in Buffalo, NY
NDRN issued the following statement in response to the racially-motivated shooting in Buffalo, NY that killed 10 Americans. "Our country is being poisoned by a rising white supremacist culture fanned by social media and cable news personalities and too often tolerated – sometimes even encouraged – by politicians. Enough is enough," said NDRN Executive Director Curt Decker.

Take Action: Disaster Relief Medicaid Act

As we enter hurricane season, it's more important than ever that Congress pass the Disaster Relief Medicaid Act. This important legislation would ensure that individuals eligible for Medicaid who are forced to relocate due to a disaster are able to continue to access their critical Medicaid supported services.
