In 2016, we saw one of the deadliest shootings in the United States at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, where 49 lives were lost in a hate-filled rampage. This Pride month, I want to renew my commitment to disarming hate and reducing gun violence against members of the LGBTQ+ community.
We can’t talk about gun violence without acknowledging the disproportionate impact it has on the most marginalized folks, particularly Black transgender women. Almost half of the hate crimes in the US target Black people and 1 in 5 hate crimes target LGBTQ+ people

I have made it my personal mission to hold Republicans accountable for their inaction on gun safety, and this is no different.We see Republicans’ refusal to advance gun safety legislation at the same time as they are focused on creating barriers to transgender healthcare, advancing harmful Don’t Say Gay bills, and tearing apart families for supporting their children.
