I am looking forward to going to the new Broad Marsh bus station tomorrow morning to see some of the first coaches arrive and leave from this fantastic new facility. I?m delighted that National Express are moving from their temporary location on Station Street and starting to run over 400 services a week from the modern facility on Canal Street, meaning it becomes an important transport hub connecting Nottingham to destinations across the UK.
The new bus station is a far cry from the old one which was an unwelcoming place to start or finish your journey. For visitors coming to Nottingham with National Express, it?s the first place they see and this bright, modern facility gives a much better impression of our city. It?s an impression that continues with the great new pedestrian friendly areas surrounding the building, and the facilities inside are first-class, including:?
? ?Light and airy waiting areas separated from bus stops by glass walls and sliding doors
? ?State of the art passenger information screens
? ?Customer toilets
? ?National Express customer service office for information, help and tickets.
It?s another great step forward for the huge improvements we?re undertaking in this part of the city, complementing the new Broad Marsh car park, the new Central Library, new Nottingham College building and vastly improved streets. More information here

Five years on from Grenfell, we will remember the 72 people who lost their lives by lighting up the Council House and other buildings - and honour their memories by continuing to do all we can locally to ensure that lessons are learnt and such a terrible disaster can never be repeated.
Cladding on high-rise blocks owned by Nottingham City Council and managed by Nottingham City Homes (NCH) already meets the required safety standards, and did not have the same cladding as Grenfell Tower. But we have carried out a range of measures to help reassure and keep tenants safe. And working alongside partners, the council has been supporting residents in other properties to make sure their homes in apartment blocks are safe, that the cladding is safe and that fire safety measures are up to scratch. We have investigated flats not just over 18 metres but under this height. We also worked to find out which buildings were a potential risk in this city and worked with building owners and developers to make sure that plans were in place and work was done to replace suspected unsafe cladding.

It is fifty years since the first march for LGBTQ+ rights in the UK, making this year?s Pride season a special celebration. Pride events around the world typically happen during the month of June, marking the Stonewall Riots which happened on June 28th 1969 in New York, while the first Pride parade in Nottingham took place on 25?July 2009 and this year?s local celebrations will take place on Saturday 30th July.
Nottingham is a welcoming and inclusive city and I?m pleased that the City Council?s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion at work has recently been recognised with a Silver Award from the Stonewall. More here

Today sees the launch of the national Scams Awareness Fortnight and our Trading Standards team is highlighting a link with the current cost-of-living crisis.
Sadly, we know that many ?con-artists? will use periods of difficulty across the country to target victims in the hope of cheating them out of money and possessions. It?s dreadful to think that people can do this to others when they?re already struggling, but we know from the pandemic that it is prevalent.
One of the key things is to talk to friends and family if you think you have fallen victim to a scam or might have been approached by a fraudster. Too often, victims feel embarrassed or awkward about admitting they?ve been ?duped?, but it happens to lots of people and by highlighting incidents we can try to protect others. Find out more
