John,

With the midterms just a few months away — the first national election to take place on the new maps drawn over the last two years — it’s clear that the work of the NDRC and our affiliates to block unfair maps and defend fair ones made a big difference. Here are three key takeaways from this recent redistricting cycle:

• First, fairer redistricting has led to fairer maps overall. 56% of Americans either saw a neutral or net improvement on the fairness of their own congressional district lines, and three-fourths of the states are now entering the decade with fair maps in place.

• Second, Democrats are in a stronger position compared to the last decade. There are more Democratic-leaning seats overall, and there’s been a drastic reduction in the additional popular vote margin Democrats likely need to win the House, compared to 2012.

• Third, Democrats are in a stronger position on the map than even Republicans, with 226 House districts that would have voted for President Biden in 2020, compared to just 209 districts that voted for Donald Trump.

The bottom line? Democrats not only overperformed in redistricting, but the overall House map is much fairer than before and will stay competitive for years to come. It’s a big win for our democracy — but our fight isn’t over yet.

PITCH IN TO HELP US KEEP FIGHTING!

There’s still litigation pending across the country that will affect maps in 2024, and for the rest of this decade. We’re working to defend the progress we’ve made and help elect fair-map Democrats in the midterms, but we need your help to keep it up. And so much more!

If you can, will you pitch in to the NDRC today and help us continue fighting for fair maps and voting rights all over the country?
