Bidenflation Hits New 40-Year High
Inflation hit another 40-year record this week culminating in the worst year for inflation since 1981. Families and businesses across Eastern North Carolina are feeling the impact of skyrocketing prices, and the average family in our community is paying an extra $350 per month to cover the cost of inflation. This economic pressure is completely unsustainable, and a direct result of President Biden's failed policies.
Under Biden, everything costs more: - Gasoline: +48.7%
- Fuel Oil: +106.7%
- Airfare: +37.8%
- Eggs: +32.2%
- Utilities: +30.2%
- Meat, Poultry, & Fish: +13.1%
- Milk: +15.9%
- Coffee: +15.3%
- Used Cars: +16.1%
- Real Wages: -3%

Murphy to Sec. Yellen: "How is adding $4 trillion in taxes good for the American people?"
On Thursday, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing regarding the Biden Administration's FY2023 budget. During the hearing, I questioned President Biden's Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen about the inflationary consequences of their new crippling tax proposal. I also warned of the severe inflationary consequences of canceling hundreds of billions in student loan debt. The last thing families in Eastern North Carolina need right now is a new wave of crushing tax hikes. Watch my full committee remarks by clicking HERE.

Murphy Targets Chinese Investments in Higher Education
This week, I sent a letter to the 15 private colleges and universities with the largest endowments, including Harvard, Yale, and Duke, urging them to purge their investment portfolios of Chinese entities deemed a threat to U.S. national security.
U.S. colleges and universities have an educational mission and receive the significant benefit of tax-exempt status. Because of this, these institutions have a moral obligation not to use their endowments to invest in Chinese companies that contribute to human rights violations and are detrimental to national security. Biden Border Crisis Rages into Summer Months
Despite claims from the Biden Administration that we have "operational control" at our Southern Border -- the data suggests otherwise. Over 2.6 million people have crossed our border since President Biden took office just 18 months ago. During that time, 42 people on the Terrorist Screening Base have been apprehended by Border Patrol.
If that wasn't bad enough, over 340,000 pounds of illegal drugs have been seized at our border since the beginning of this year alone. Border security is national security, and it's clear that Biden's open border agenda is a threat to both U.S. national security and public health.

Murphy Letter to Prevent Supply Chain Disruption
Did you know that the West Coast Ports account for over 44 percent of our nation’s port traffic? North Carolina families and businesses in our district rely on these supply chains for goods each and every day.
Unfortunately, right now, labor contract negotiations are threatening to impose additional delays, exacerbate freight congestion, and further harm manufacturing at the ports. As our nation confronts record inflation and heightened economic challenges from the Biden Administration, it is absolutely vital that these ports continue to function without interruption.
On Wednesday, I partnered with Senator Mike Braun of Indiana in sending bicameral letters demanding action from the Executive Branch to keep our supply chain running as labor contract negotiations continue. I’m proud to join Senator Braun in this bicameral effort to ensure that these negotiations do not result in costly delays that further impede our supply chain production.

Giving Back to the Outer Banks!
Thank you to Twiddy & Co. for recently partnering with Team Murphy to beautify Highway 12! Together, we successfully collected nearly a dozen bags of trash in Corolla. It’s so important to find ways to give back to your community, and we had a great time cleaning up our community here in the North East. Special thank you to Twiddy staff Mincie, Mitzi, Pat, Mike, Blake, Kim, and Renee for joining us!
