Congressional Art Competition Winner |
|
Every year, high school students showcase their talents in the Congressional Art Competition. Winners have the unique opportunity to have their artwork hung in the Capitol for members and visitors to see.
I am thrilled to announce Annika as the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The skill and talent displayed in ‘Kgerald’ is incredible, and I thank Annika for her work. I would also like to thank the dozens of students from across the Second District who submitted artwork this year. The quality of submissions this year made my decision very difficult and I am incredibly appreciative of the students and art teachers who put in the time and effort to produce such quality work. I look forward to having Annika’s art hanging alongside hundreds of other students’ work in the Capitol!

Veterans Bills Signed Into Law |
|
As a 24-year Army veteran, I was thrilled to see three of my bills become law this week. It is fitting that on the day after the 78th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, my bill to honor the Army Rangers of World War II with the Congressional Gold Medal reaches the finish line. Additionally, two of my bills that increase access to breast cancer screenings for female veterans are now law. Female veterans are at risk for several types of cancer, especially breast cancer, and they should have access to these necessary screenings. America’s veterans put their lives on the line to keep all of us safe at home, and I am proud to work for them every day to honor their service.
The Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options (MAMMO) for Veterans Act would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to develop a strategic plan to improve breast imaging services, create a telemammography pilot program for veterans in areas where VA does not offer in-house mammography and expand veterans’ access to clinical trials through partnerships with the National Cancer Institute.
These bills are just a small step in repaying our veterans for their service. I look forward to continuing my work in making sure that veterans receive the care that is deserved.

Across the country, states and localities are sitting on top of COVID-19 funding that was allocated to schools across the country has not been spent. This funding should be used to make sure that our children are kept safe in schools. That is why this week I introduced the Securing Our Schools Act.
We need to give schools more resources to keep our students safe. Clarifying states have the flexibility to use relief money to increase security is a commonsense step that would see immediate results. I hope that Congress can act to keep our students safe and responsibly using taxpayer dollars.

Opposing the Chinese Communist Party |
|
Ensuring our domestic food supply is secure is key to our national security. We need to continuously work to strengthen our domestic supply chains and prevent the Chinese Communist Party from increasing its presence in our agriculture industry. Taking these actions will boost American agriculture, improve our economy, and create thousands of good-paying jobs.
