John,
After the recent shootings in Uvalde, Buffalo, Tulsa, and across the country, I was hoping that our elected leaders would meet this moment and finally take action to address the epidemic of gun violence in America.
But instead, Nicole Malliotakis voted against legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Simple “red flag” laws like the one passed by the House this week would help lower crime and prevent more mass shootings – like the devastating attack in Buffalo last month. Yesterday, we held a press conference in front of PS 57 to demand that Congress make ending gun violence its first priority. We cannot play politics with the lives and safety of our kids, our teachers, and our community.
Our kids are being shot in elementary schools, churches and super markets, and yet Nicole Malliotakis and congressional Republicans are more concerned with politics than protecting our children.
John, I served in combat in Afghanistan. I understand what assault weapons, bump stocks and extended magazines can do, which is why I refuse to stay silent on the issue of gun violence in our country.
And it’s why I know that congressional Republicans are the wrong choice to lead at this critical moment.
The people of Staten Island and South Brooklyn deserve better. Can I count on you to help us win this race?
Yours in service,
Max Rose
