On Thursday, the January 6th Committee held its first of many public hearings illustrating the horrific violence, hatred, and destruction that occurred on that deadly day. But first, here’s how we got here:

FIRST: Over 600 Republican elected officials signed onto briefs, letters, or legislation asking for the 2020 presidential election results to be overturned or parroted Trump’s Big Lie online. That’s over 15% of all of the Republican lawmakers in the country.

THEN: 21 sitting Republican lawmakers traveled to DC on January 6th, marching alongside Confederate flags, nooses, and seditionists who would later vandalize the Capitol and attack police officers.

SO NOW: A Congressional committee is releasing damning testimony and video that shows Donald Trump and his far-right cronies played a heavy hand in the insurrection.
