John,
The Senate just announced a bipartisan framework that, if passed, will mark the most consequential federal gun violence prevention policies we have seen in 30 years.
This is the kind of change that gun violence prevention activists have been fighting for for decades, since Brady passed our namesake background checks bill in the ‘90’s, and finally, the lawmakers are acting in the interest of Americans and not the gun lobby.
This is a meaningful step but it is only the first. Our hope is this bipartisan effort will usher in a new era for the gun violence prevention movement. And it’s happening because activists said enough, because you took action alongside hundreds of thousands of others.
Finally, the Senate is listening to the American people and not the gun lobby – and we must keep up the pressure to ensure these policies cross the finish line.
