John – Today is International Children's Day. This day is always important, but this year feels extra special. You see, just a couple weeks ago, I was blessed with a new grandson.
Seeing his sweet face at just a few hours old and watching my daughter beam with pride and joy is a feeling like no other. Welcoming my beautiful grandson to the world has reminded me all over again just how precious our children are – and just how fiercely we must advocate for their futures.
Children's causes have compelled me to serve and give back throughout my entire life – as a nurse treating children, as a volunteer caring for vulnerable homeless children, and as a humanitarian supporting organizations dedicated to making life better for kids. Advocating for our children is one of the causes most near and dear to my heart.
But right now, the politicians in Washington are letting our kids down. It's hard enough raising a kid – or being one. Today, families have to worry about if they're safe at school, if there is formula on the shelves, and if basic necessities like food or diapers are affordable.
Parents and kids need support, compassion, and action. But that's not what they're getting from Washington. Just last month, amidst a terrifying and ongoing baby formula shortage, nearly 200 representatives voted against making formula more accessible.
Honestly, this type of complete callousness just doesn't make sense to me, John. If you're not in Washington to fight for our kids, then who are you there for? That's not just a failure of leadership – it's a complete lack of morals and compassion.
I promise you that I'll lead with kindness and that I will always – always – put our children first, before politics. That's why I'm in this race: We need a nurse's heart in the Senate. If you agree with me on this, I hope that I can count on you to chip in a grassroots donation today to support my campaign. Any amount would mean so much to me.
