Wednesday, June 8, 2022: I’m up early and on the radio this morning with my good friend Bill Edwards with NewsTalk 1290 in Savannah as we discuss the gun law bills the Democrats are proposing this week in the House.
Afterwards, I head off Capitol Hill where I attend a Healthcare Freedom Fund meeting and introduce my good friend, emergency room physician and Marine veteran Rich McCormick, who is running for Congress in the 6th District of Georgia.
Once back on Capitol Hill, I head to our weekly GOP Conference meeting before heading to the Pentagon where, along with members of the Coastal Georgia Military Affairs Coalition, I meet with Air Force officials to discuss the proposed closing of the CRTC in Savannah. After a great meeting where members of the coalition do an excellent job advocating for the CRTC and explaining its importance to the area, I head back to Capitol Hill where I meet with representatives from the airline industry followed by a meeting with representatives from General Dynamics, the parent company of Gulfstream Aerospace.
Next, I have a meeting with representatives from United Safety Technology, a company leading the charge to bring personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing back to the U.S. They are strong supporters of my Manufacturing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Drugs and Excipients (MADE) Act that incentivizes American companies to bring these type of manufacturing jobs back to America.
Afterwards, I head to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the day, and then meet West Point Cadet CDT Graham Hendrickson on the plaza steps for a picture. A 2020 graduate of Benedictine Military School in Savannah, I nominated Graham to West Point and am proud of his success.
After a meeting with my House Colleague, Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), I head back to my office where I meet with my former colleague and good friend, Mick Mulvaney from South Carolina, to discuss budget issues.
Next, I meet with Matt Gay, a Pooler native who grew up with my sons, who is representing the National Grocers Association. Matt comes from a fine family, and it is good to see how he has grown into such a fine young man.
After a meeting off Capitol Hill, I head to the Longworth Office building where I meet with Rep. Jake LaTurner (R-KS) before heading to the House Chamber where we have 18 votes that lasts for 4 hours.
