Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

This week, I was back in Washington, D.C. for a series of votes in the U.S. House of Representatives!

I was proud to join Senator Ted Cruz, Alliance Defending Freedom, and my Congressional colleagues to stand with Lorie Smith, founder of 303 Creative, to defend Lorie’s freedom of speech against an unjust law forcing her to express a message against her religious beliefs.

I had a wonderful discussion with the Mountain West Credit Union and Northwest Credit Union Associations about data privacy, reforms to the Federal Credit Union Act, and other issues that credit unions face.

It was a pleasure to meet with the Air Line Pilots Association to discuss training requirements for pilots and measures to ensure both passenger and crew safety.

Before heading back to D.C., I had a great time speaking to constituents at Ridges at Peoria in Arizona about the work I am doing in Congress to support our district.

Democrats’ Radical Gun Control Agenda

I voted NO on the Democrats’ radical gun control bills that disarm American citizens. The House Democrats’ bills attack American citizens’ due process rights and the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families. It is a shame that House Democrats chose not to work with Republicans and instead advanced partisan legislation that erodes the Constitutional rights of law-abiding American citizens.

Lesko’s Statement on January 6th Committee

The Select Committee on January 6th held its first public hearing this week. Instead of engaging in political theatre, this Committee should be focused on investigating why the U.S. Capitol was left unsecured on January 6, 2021, and what we can do to ensure that an event like January 6th never happens again.

Lesko Demands Answers on Potential Energy Shortages and Blackouts

Image

I joined House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ (R-WA-05) letter to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm to demand answers about what the Biden Administration is doing to prevent blackouts and address potential electricity shortages this summer. Blackouts are dangerous and could be deadly for many Americans. It is crucial that the Biden Administration take swift action to address this potential crisis.

Lesko Joins Effort to Avoid Supply Chain Disruptions

Image

I signed on to Congressman Greg Murphy’s (R-NC-03) letter to President Biden to request that the Biden Administration keep unions at the negotiating table for upcoming contract negotiations at America’s West Coast ports to avoid another supply chain crisis. The American people should not see bare shelves whenever they go to the store!

GET THE FACTS: Massive Migrant Caravan Heads Toward the Southern Border

As you may have seen on the news, there is a massive migrant caravan headed to our southern border! This could be the largest migrant caravan to hit our southern border EVER. It is unacceptable that the Biden Administration continues to ignore the crisis at our southern border. This administration’s open-border policies are incentivizing these migrants to come to our border in record-breaking numbers. Democrats don’t have a plan to get our southern border under control. Republicans do.

Casework Highlight

A local business reached out to our office after they received a $5,000 penalty from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for not filing their tax return. After reaching out to the IRS, we were able to show documentation that the tax return had been filed, and the penalty was removed and refunded.

Encouraging Story

I am pleased to share this story about a remarkable teenage girl who refuses to let Cerebral Palsy get in the way of her being an athlete. Charlie Duffy, who plays softball for her club team and for Northwest Christian School, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when she was just three years old. However, she didn’t let that stop her from following her dreams. Charlie hopes to go on to play D1 college softball in Arizona.
