I've spent the past four decades making films unpacking the most pressing themes from American history to help interpret our present, and I know a historic moment is upon us.

Our present has perhaps never been so fraught. I've seen New Hampshire go through tumultuous changes over the past 40 years I've been a resident, but I have never before felt such a threat to our democracy.

Maggie Hassan is a vital voice in the Senate, and we cannot afford to lose her tireless work on behalf of Granite Staters and all Americans. 

Throughout my career, I've learned that history is not a fixed thing: Each generation has the chance to rediscover and reexamine the past in a way that gives new meaning to the present.

But it will require us to act with all the civil energies at our disposal to reinstate true equality – the hallmark and birthright of ALL Americans. 

Maggie is helping us reinstate this equality. But we must give all we can right now to help her on her uphill battle towards reelection.
