When I was a kid, my family lost everything. My parents' business partner had fled to Canada with their firm's money and left my family–including my seven siblings and my father who was chronically ill–to pick up the pieces. I remember watching my dollhouse be sold at auction, and I learned at a very young age that a high level of trust is absolutely crucial to managing financial accounts.
Throughout my life, that lesson stuck with me. After seeing how members of my family struggled to access quality health care, I became a Physician Assistant, and later, a financial consultant for hospitals. I was able to work with large hospital groups to find financial solutions that both worked for the health care corporations themselves and the communities they served.
At the same time, I was involved in humanitarian efforts in the community. I watched so many people in our state suffer as I started to see a lot of changes in government that didn't really align with my values. I knew I could continue to act personally in my own community, but for me, that wasn't enough anymore. It was time for me to step in. So, I ran for Treasurer–and I won.
