It's been nearly 60 years today since the Equal Pay Act became law.

Forty-six years after that, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 was passed to fill the gaps.

But even with that progress, American women today still only earn about 83 cents for every dollar made by a man working the same job. In Pennsylvania, the average is even worse: just 79 cents on the dollar. And most workers don't even have access to the data they need to know whether they're being discriminated against.

Senator Casey co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act in the Senate to hold employers accountable and make it harder for them to hide wage discrimination. But Senate Republicans voted to block it.
