John, Parents of transgender kids in Texas have the right to access safe, affirming, and necessary health care made in consultation with medical professionals and without fear of intimidation or investigation. That’s why PFLAG fights so hard to ensure that transgender people and their loved ones are safe and supported. Now, Gov. Greg Abbott is coming for parents of transgender kids—and we cannot let that stand. That’s why, just two days ago, Lambda Legal, ACLU National, and ACLU of Texas filed PFLAG v Abbott, demanding the court block Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) investigations of PFLAG families who are supporting their transgender children with medically necessary health care. Please support courageous families in Texas with a donation of $50 or more to ensure they are safe, empowered, and can thrive—and will have all of the benefits of PFLAG National membership. To read these families’ stories is enraging and heartbreaking. Families like: …the Briggles, whose son Max is transgender. Max’s mom Amber has twice testified before the Texas Legislature against passage of legislation that would harm trans young people. Within 48 hours of Governor Abbott’s directive to DFPS, an investigator came to their home asking intimate, personal, and invasive questions to determine if Amber and her husband had committed “abuse” by following the advice of medical and mental health care professionals and affirming Max’s identity… …the Stantons, whose daughter, M.S. (name redacted for safety) is transgender. When the family began allowing her to be her true and authentic self by social transitioning, it was like a light turned on. But after the DFPS directive, the family has gone through extraordinary mental and emotional stress and hardship. The psychological impact has been devastating for the entire family, and their anxiety levels are at an all-time high…and …the Roes (name redacted for safety), whose transgender teenager Tommy was pulled out of class and questioned by a DFPS investigator. Before he even had a chance to notify his mom about what had happened, they received a phone call from his older sibling stating that a DFPS investigator was waiting for them at home—awaiting the opportunity to ask more invasive and deeply personal questions. Your gift will ensure that families like the Briggles, the Stantons, the Roes, and thousands more can take advantage of the full resources, support, and protection that becoming a member of PFLAG National will provide. If it takes a court ruling to legally protect families and allies who lead with love in support of transgender kids and their families, so be it. And if there was ever a time to show your unwavering support for PFLAG National and our families, this is it. Your donation of $50 or more to PFLAG National will provide families the resources they need to fight this egregious legislation attacking parents and trans kids in Texas. PFLAG National is here to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Today, right now, we need you with us. |
