“And the ransomed of the Lord will return and come to Zion with singing, crowned with unending joy. Joy and gladness will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.”
(Isaiah 35:10)

Hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, Isaiah gave us a beautiful picture of restoration after dark times. In Isaiah 35 he said, “The wilderness and the dry land will be glad; the desert will rejoice and blossom like a wildflower.” He described how the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame leap, the mute speak, and water gushes in dry places. He ended chapter 35 with a vision of what is to come: God’s people gather together with the Lord and sing, “… crowned with unending joy. Joy and gladness will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.”

Jesus came to make the picture in Isaiah 35 a reality. He performed miracles for the lame, the blind, and the sick, and ultimately brought us eternal joy through his life, death, and resurrection. This Advent season He continues bringing that joy to the toughest places — those far away and close to home.

Take time to pray for joy in your own life and in the lives of your loved ones — in light of what Jesus has done. Reflect on how God has brought restoration to your life.

Winter Praises and Prayers
* Pray for peace in the hearts of people, especially in countries experiencing ongoing war and internal conflicts.

* Pray people in the toughest places on earth will continue to be served by GAiN unhindered. Pray they may receive an abundance of healthy meals, clean water, and critical aid according to their needs.

* Praise God people around the world are experiencing the real joy of Christmas thanks to the generosity of GAiN partners who make it possible to deliver humanitarian assistance and the message of eternal hope.
