Cities Not Cracking Down on Crimes

John,

Failing to fully prosecute criminals is becoming a widespread problem
throughout our criminal justice system and gun crimes are no different. Rather
than enforce the laws on the books, many prosecutors and judges across the
country and throughout Minnesota are letting dangerous criminals back on the
streets with reckless leniency that puts our public safety at risk.

“Many police departments are reporting high numbers of illegal firearms taken
off the streets amid rising violence nationally,” reported the Washington
Examiner
<[link removed]>
. “However, in some of those cities, gun-related arrests, prosecutions, and
convictions are down as liberal law enforcement policies contribute to the rise
in crime.”

“Put plainly, people accused of carrying illegal guns in recent years have had
better than a coin flip’s chance of beating their case in court,” according to
thePhiladelphia Inquirer

.

Last year, U.S. attorney's offices around the country filed federal charges
for a firearm offense against 15,525 defendants, according to the Justice
Department <[link removed]>. Just
9,971 were ultimately found guilty of a violation, meaning thousands of others
arrested and charged with federal gun offenses walked free.

Let’s Put an End to the War on American Energy

The complete control of Washington by Democrats has brought us a war on
American energy that is hurting Minnesota families and small businesses. With
gas and energy prices are skyrocketing, it’s time to embrace our domestic
resources that could help bring down prices. To do that we must:

* End the federal freeze on new oil and gas leases
* Fast-track pending LNG export permits
* Expedite approval of all pipeline and energy development
* Stop the regulatory assault on U.S. energy development and financing

Election Integrity Remains a Priority

One of my priorities in Congress is doing all we can to ensure election
integrity which is why I helped recruit more than 300 volunteer election judges
this spring to monitor elections this fall in the 8th congressional district.
But another election issue could arise, according to the Bipartisan Policy
Center. Due to supply chain shortages and other challenges, there could be
ballot paper shortages this fall. Most states and elections are downplaying the
issue for now, but we hope this doesn’t rear its ugly head this fall.

“The good news is that many local election officials will keep an eye on these
kinds of details, and will be prepared,”National Review
<[link removed]>
reports. “Unfortunately, it is likely that at least a few won’t — and woe to
the community where local election officials run out of ballots because they
didn’t print enough beforehand. These kinds of troubles will likely lead to new
anecdotes of election-night confusion, and set off another round of suspicion,
accusations and counter-accusations, and claims of behind-the-scenes
shenanigans.”

Hooray for Hugo!!

By all intents and purposes, summer is here! That means parade season is upon
us. I look forward to traveling around the 8th congressional district this
summer and visiting with Minnesotans of all ages in some of the great
communities that make up our part of Minnesota. I look forward to visiting Hugo
– due to the Census, a community new to the 8th congressional district –
tomorrow morning. We’d love for you to join us in the parade! If you are
interested in joining us in Hugo, be there at 10:30 tomorrow morning. If you
want to join us at any other upcoming parades, please e-mail my campaign at

Have a great week!
