Hi, John,
Like most of you, I watched the public hearing last night from the January 6th committee investigating the violent insurrection on our Capitol.
The violence from the attack was chilling and stunning.
From ABC News:
Liz Cheney: “You were knocked unconscious, is that right?” [[link removed]]
Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards: “Yes, ma’am.” [[link removed]]
“But then you regained consciousness, even with the injuries, you returned to duty, is that right?” [[link removed]]
“Yes, ma’am…I tried to hold the line at Senate steps.” [[link removed]]
Watching the footage and hearing the testimony from Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, I am left wondering how an elected leader could vote against the people who saved her life that day.
But that’s exactly what Cori Bush did when she voted NO on the Capitol security funding bill after January 6th.
(Let’s not forget, this bill also included $4.4M for wellness and trauma support, including hiring six additional mental health professionals and wellness resilience specialists.)
Officer Edwards also testified last night that she saw officers with “blood all over their faces” and was “slipping in people’s blood.” [[link removed]]
I live in St. Louis, and I understand we need to reform the police, and together with President Biden, we’ll do just that, but Cori Bush’s constant rhetoric that we need to “Defund the Police” is ridiculous! Not only is it misguided, it hands the Republicans everything they need to take back the House – here’s CNN quoting her: “ So suck it up and defunding the police has to happen, we need to defund the police…”
Today is not a day to ask you to donate to our campaign – the attack on our Capitol was one of the darkest hours in the history of our Republic. Today is a day to reflect, thank those brave individuals who held the line for Democracy and embolden ourselves never to let it happen again. [[link removed]]
Thank you to the brave women and men who protected our Capitol on January 6th. Thank you to Chairman Bennie Thompson and Vice-Chairwoman Liz Cheney of the January 6th Committee. Thank you for reading, and may God bless each of you and the United States of America.
~ Steve
