While inflation continues to soar and gas prices have hit a record high this week, the Democrats have dedicated this week in Congress to promulgate restrictions on your 2nd amendment rights and push their agenda known as the 'J6 Committee'. Clearly, priorities are mixed-up as Democrats choose to stoke fears in the American people, rather than attempt to combat the economic travesties that are negatively affecting Americans everywhere. This week, I took to the House floor to express my outrage at another instance of one Party using fear, emotion, and short-sighted perspective to further the federal subjugation of Americans' rights.

On Wednesday, I debated the provisions of H.R. 7910, the “Protect Our Children Act” on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Specifically, I objected to this legislation for its misguided and ineffective attack on the Second Amendment. "Gun-free zone" advocates do not realize that what they advocate for disarms people and prevents law-abiding citizens from defending themselves.

The second gun bill and last vote of this week was on H.R. 2377, the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act — more accurately referred to as the "Red Flag bill". This bill would eviscerate our due process rights, right to bear arms, and states' rights in direct violation of the 2nd, 5th, and 10th amendments in the Bill of Rights. Allowing other individuals to abjectly declare a fellow citizen as a threat, banning them from owning a gun, is not what the Founders envisioned. I am proud to vote against this measure because this certainly not consistent with our liberties and freedoms granted to us in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

HURRICANE SEASON IN NW FLORIDA
As Floridians certainly know, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the peak occurring between mid-August and late October. Here are some tips to safely prepare for the season:
Prepare a kit. Ensure you and your family have a disaster kit ready to go in case of an emergency. For more information on items to include in a kit, visit Ready.gov/hurricanes for preparedness tips.
Get to know your surroundings. Know the elevation of your house and property. Hurricanes often bring storm surge, which is considered the greatest threat to property and life during any tropical storm. Know your communities’ evacuation routes and how you would evacuate to higher ground. For more information on potential storm surge areas visit NOAA’s storm surge site.
Consistently check the weather. The Coast Guard's mobile app for boating safety is a tool to check marine weather from your phone. With the mobile app, you can check the weather at nearby NOAA buoys, which provide wind speed and direction along with wave height. Checking weather any time you plan to get underway and throughout your time on the water is highly recommended.
Secure your boats. Review your hurricane plan with your local marina, ensure you have a plan to both bring your boat in and strap it down ashore or ensure it is properly equipped to ride out the storm at the marina.
Listen to local officials. When it comes to hurricane response and preparedness, the most important link in the chain is you: prepare your boat for the season, have a hurricane mooring plan and monitor channel 16 on your VHF radio when on the water. Prior to planning a trip, keep an eye on the weather, port conditions, and other hurricane warnings.
