Friend, 

Last night, my colleagues, staff, and I relived the nightmare we experienced on January 6th, when armed insurrectionists breached the Capitol, in the culmination of an attempted coup. The testimony we heard laid out conclusive evidence that former President Trump attempted to overturn a free and fair election, and that Republican lawmakers aided that effort. 

The hearings made it clear Trump was at the center of this plot. Despite his closest advisors telling him he lost, he clung to election conspiracies and attempted to manipulate the system to maintain his power. When that failed, he sat by while supporters sieged the Capitol and threatened to kill his Vice President and Democratic lawmakers. 

The violence we saw that day was not spontaneous: It was carefully planned, including securing tours from sitting lawmakers. This was the last phase of the plan Trump hatched to ensure he prevailed.  

It's abundantly clear that Trump, his accomplices, and the Republican party -- which refuses to condemn him -- present a clear and imminent danger to our democracy. They orchestrated an attempted coup, and many of them faced no consequences.  

It's time to change that. We will hold them accountable. This is a fight we can't afford to lose, so I'll keep working.
