Just this week, I stopped by Wayside Youth & Family Support Network’s Tempo Program to speak with care providers and young people receiving their services. I'm going to share a bit more about my visit, but there’s one thing I heard loud and clear:

We are in a mental health crisis. We need to invest more in our mental health care system to support providers and ensure everyone can access the care they need. If you agree, will you add your name in support?

What I heard from providers and clients at Wayside aligns with what I’ve been hearing in communities across the state – we are in a mental health crisis. We don’t have enough qualified providers to meet skyrocketing demand. The providers we do have are overworked and underpaid. Residents who need help are forced to jump through hoops and endure long wait times to access care.

Mental health care must be treated as seriously as all other forms of health care. Together, we can solve this crisis.

As Governor, this will be one of my top priorities – and we have a plan. Here are just a few ways we’ll bring this vision to life:

- Invest in workforce development and support, especially for providers of color.
- Create enforceable standards for parity in coverage.
- Build on successful models for providing behavioral health access in the community.
