Last night, I joined millions of Americans tuning in to watch the hearing held by the House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack, and let me tell you, I’m still fuming.

We heard some intriguing – and, at times, alarming – information last night. Here are some things that stuck with me:

• President Trump publicly attacked the 2020 election results despite a complete lack of evidence of fraud, entirely disregarding the pleas of some of his lead advisors like Attorney General Bill Barr and Ivanka Trump.
• Extremist groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers conspired in the months leading up to the insurrection to plan an attack on the Capitol.
• According to Rep. Liz Cheney’s remarks, the Committee’s next hearing will show that President Trump led a large-scale campaign to spread misinformation to convince Americans that the election was stolen. The second hearing is set for next Monday, June 13, and I’m anxious to hear the evidence.

But here’s the thing: We know that the extremist movement behind the attack on our Capitol started well before January 6, 2021 – and it’s only grown since then. RepresentUs isn’t going to sit on the sidelines while our democracy is under attack. And, as a supporter of RepresentUs, I know you won’t either.

In 2020, we were outspent by at least 10 to 1 by extremist organizations like the Thomas More Society that are working to destabilize American elections.¹ Their war chests have ballooned over the last two years and their plans to contest future elections are moving ahead.

As I was watching the hearing yesterday, I couldn't help but think about how authoritarian extremists are actively laying the groundwork to contest the 2022 election. They’re spreading misinformation and lies to sow distrust in our elections. And they’re working to accumulate power by installing like-minded extremists in vacant election official positions – positions held by dedicated public servants until extremists pushed them out with harassment and threats of violence. And that’s just what they’re sharing publicly.

We need to be ready if things get ugly. But to do that, we need your help. Will you join the Common Wealth by starting a monthly commitment by June 30 to make sure we’re prepared?
