[ [link removed] ]Welch for Vermont

Hello,

It's been easy to take democracy for granted in America, but it’s
imperiled, and it demands our attention.

The House January 6th Commission started to reveal their findings last
night, and it’s worse than we even imagined. The horrifying details about
the insurrection are breathtaking, and a haunting reminder how close we
were to losing our democracy.

I’m going to keep working to make sure we get all the facts on this
attempt to overturn an election—from the plot to incite a violent attack
on our country to the ongoing efforts by Trump Republicans to take a
hammer to our democracy by denying the will of the voters.

Driven by Trump and his Big Lie, Republican elected officials are taking
steps through making it harder to vote, gerrymandering congressional
districts so politicians pick their voters not the other way around, and
taking away the independent role of state authorities to certify election
results in order to destabilize free and fair elections in the future.

The right to vote and the peaceful transfer of power are core tenets of
our nation’s democracy. And our future depends on our ability to protect
and strengthen our democracy.

Each of us has a role to play to help keep our democracy alive, and I’ve
seen it throughout our Vermont communities—Vermonters working together in
ways both big and small to rebuild trust and protect our democracy. From
registering neighbors to vote, to casting ballots in every local election,
to educating friends and family about legislation that can make a
difference, and more. And I’m ready to bring this Vermont Way to the
Senate on Day One.

Fighting for our democracy is one of the core reasons I’m in this
race. Remember, the same
Republicans who voted to overturn the election could be in control of
Congress next year if we lose key races like this one. [ [link removed] ]If you think
protecting our democracy is one of the most important issues we face in
this election, I’d appreciate it if you signed your name alongside other
grassroots supporters.

Democracy is on the ballot in November, and we can't let it lose.

Thanks for being with me in this fight.

Peter
