Last night’s hearing had us shook – we watched in horror as the evidence was laid out, crystal clear and beyond a shadow of a doubt about what took place on January 6, 2021.
Terrorists laid siege to our most sacred national building that day, but it's not the building that we care so much about. It's what the building symbolizes – who we are as a country, our collective identity as a free people, our shared history with all its ups and downs.
What happened on that day wasn’t totally without precedent; the British stormed and set fire to the Capitol during the war of 1812. What was unprecedented was that this attack was planned and executed by American citizens – including sitting members of the federal government!
The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, accompanied by thousands of rank-and-file Trump supporters, stormed the halls of Congress that day looking to execute elected officials from both sides of the aisle.
Why?
Because their loyalty is to one man and one man alone – Donald Trump. And because Trump puts himself above country, himself above party, himself above everything … so do his loyal followers.
Bottom line: Trump took advantage of his followers’ loyalty and gave them a direct order to attack the Capitol, which they obeyed. They even said so themselves, in a chilling video compilation played at the end of the hearing:
“We were invited by the President of the United States!” one shouted as he stormed the Capitol.
“Trump ASKED us to come,” said another, who was sentenced to 3 years’ probation for his role in the violence.
“I thought for everything he’s done for us, if that’s the only thing he’s gonna ask of me, I’m gonna do it,” said another, who has been charged but not yet sentenced.
“I remember Donald Trump telling people to be there.”
“I was there because he called us there.”
Make no mistake: Nothing happened on Jan 6 th , 2021 without Trump's advance knowledge and approval. Unfortunately, most of our counterparts in the GOP are so weak-minded that they refuse to accept the truth, even when it is laid out in front of them for their own eyes to see.
So, what do we do now?
We refuse to cede power to them, that's what.

Right now, there are so many challenges we face as a nation, but the biggest one, the one challenge that could quite literally end us, is the one we witnessed last night.
Because if you think 2020 was a one-off scheme, you’re wrong – even as we write to you, Trump is raising billions in campaign money, getting loyalists elected to key electoral oversight positions in battleground states, and setting the stage for his return in 2024 – whether he lawfully wins the election or not.
So, we’ve got to fight back. We’ve got to work harder. We’ve got to “talk less and listen more,” to borrow a line from Hamilton. We’ve got to reach out to “forgotten” and “left behind” voters in middle America, empathize with their struggles, and offer real solutions to better their lives.
We’ve got to flip America’s Heartland blue .
Right now, the Republicans are doing what they can to block every measure that President Biden wants to pass in order to ease people’s burdens during these difficult times.
It’s not a failure of logic that they yell and scream about rising gas prices, then vote an hour later to block a bill to reduce the price of gas. It’s their entire strategy – put the screws to the American people, then turn around, falsely blame our side, and claim that they’re the only ones who’ll fix it.
The GOP doesn’t care about this country, they only care about power, and they will stop at nothing to get it … including doing the bidding of a treasonous traitor who tried to get some of them killed.
But we appreciate this quote from The Art of War : “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”
Well, we know who the Republicans are. They showed us on January 6 th , and they showed us again last night.
And we know who we are: We’re Democrats – the party with democracy literally in our name. The party that will fight to the end to defend it.
Maybe we can’t all be warriors and heroes like our spokesman, Richard, or Officer Caroline Edwards, who testified at last night’s hearing … but we can all step up to save our country when it needs us most.
Right now, folks, America needs us.
This attack is not over – they are strategizing, planning, meeting, and brainwashing their base as we speak. We know because we spend a lot of resources to stay up to date with their latest lies. (Sometimes we wish we didn't have to, but this is the job we signed up for.)
You all stepped up big-time in 2020, and we completely destroyed them at the ballot box. We can do it again in 2022 if we try.
