Green home transformations happening in Nottingham
EnergieSprong retrofits in progress
Many of our residents live in fuel poverty with the cost of living crisis is only making this more of an issue for even more people. To help reduce fuel poverty locally, work is underway to turn 77 council homes in Radford to super green and energy efficient properties, building on previous schemes across the city. .
The houses and bungalows in Radford are receiving improvements that will not only make the homes warmer and reduce energy bills for tenants, but will also improve the environmental performance of the homes, helping towards Nottingham?s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2028.?
The Deep Retrofit Energy Model (DREeM) improvements being done by Nottingham City Homes, include: ??
* Super insulated wall panels
* New windows (as required), including new internal window surrounds
* A?new super insulated roof structure on the bungalows
* Solar PV panels
* Gas boilers are to be replaced where required
* Roof coverings on the properties are to be renewed.
This project is all part of the council?s commitment to invest in improving council housing and future proofing homes for residents and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund grant.

New ideas for how we can reduce smoking
Smokefree logo
I was pleased to see a new report this week that recommends a range of measures that could be adopted nationally to help reduce the number of people who smoke. The report, called Making Smoking Obsolete [ [link removed] ], proposes raising the age of sale of tobacco products, investing more in stop-smoking services, promoting vaping as a tool to quit smoking and improving prevention in the NHS.
Smoking is the single largest cause of preventable death and disease in Nottingham. Just over one in five (20.9%) adults in Nottingham are smokers ? higher than the England average of 13.9% and the fourth highest smoking prevalence among all local authority areas in England.
We have to do all we can to reduce smoking in our city and in the country as a whole. The facts speak for themselves: smoking tobacco remains the greatest preventable cause of illness, early death and the biggest cause of cancer, with one in four deaths from all cancers estimated to be caused by smoking.
Please remember, we have the Stub it! stop-smoking service in Nottingham that offers individual help and support. People are three times more likely to successfully quit smoking with the help of trained advisors. Find out more about Stub It! here: [link removed] [ [link removed] ]
