There is a saying that goes “show me your friends and I’ll show you who you are,” which is the inspiration for our latest campaign. There are several Republican candidates running in battleground races who have been silent as their “friends” in Republican leadership spread dangerous and racist lies that endanger our communities. If you run with those who tell hurtful lies for their own benefit, it says a lot about you.

At America’s Voice, we want to make sure you know not just the blatantly racist candidates that are running for office, but who their friends are as well. That is why I am thrilled to announce our new “Show Me Your Friends” political campaign!

The “Show Me Your Friends / Dime Con Quién Andas” campaign is a bilingual effort that seeks to educate and hold Republican candidates accountable for the reckless extremism embraced by their leadership. Because the very first vote every Member of Congress takes is for leadership positions, and the current Republican leadership has attacked immigrants and spread dangerous conspiracy theories. Republican candidates can loudly reject the hateful lies of their Republican “friends” or they are complicit in attacks on our communities.

The messages these Republican candidates are using in their campaigns are dangerous. Many are using the same language and ideas as the torch-wielding racists that killed peaceful protesters in Charlottesville in 2017 and that murdered groups of people in Pittsburgh in 2018, El Paso in 2019 and most recently in Buffalo. Even as these mass murderers have made it clear that racist ideas inspire them, Republican candidates and their friends have embraced these racist lies.

This is the purpose of our new campaign - to make it clear who these Republican candidates are friends with because it matters.

We aim to hold these candidates accountable because unless Republicans actively and publicly stand up to their friends’ dangerous ideas, they too, are responsible for the racist and dangerous rhetoric that make our communities less safe.
