Today we reach out to share good news and seek your help. LDAD has officially become a 501(c)(3) organization and, in honor of this milestone, friends of our organization have offered a matching gift up to $10,000 for all donations received by July 1.
We urge you to take this opportunity to double the value of your gift and help us do our important work at this precarious time for American democracy.
Since our founding, we have employed a variety of ways to educate, cajole, implore, encourage, and demand that the profession do better in protecting the rule of law and our democratic institutions.
We have filed amicus briefs, written op-eds, issued statements, and distributed Calls-to-Action signed by thousands of you in response to a number of significant assaults on our democracy.
We have also sought accountability against those who violated their oath as lawyers in their efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, including Rudolph Giuliani, whose law license has been suspended, Texas Attorney General Kenneth Paxton, who is the subject of a disciplinary petition by the Texas State Bar, and John Eastman, who is the subject of an investigation by the California State Bar.
Earlier this year, we created a milestone document: The Democracy Commitment, which focuses lawyers on what the legal profession can and should specifically do to protect democracy.
As members of the legal profession, we have and will continue, with our limited but prominent resources, to speak truth to power. And we ask you to stay with us, join us, and help us amplify our concentrated efforts to ensure that democracy holds in the face of ever-challenging assaults.
To make your tax-deductible donation, please follow this link. The matching gift deadline expires on July 1, 2022.
