“Our democracy remains in
danger. The conspiracy to thwart the will of the people is not
over.”
—Representative Bennie Thompson of
Mississippi,
Chair of the Select Committee on the
January 6 Attack
Friend,
The first hearing of the January 6th Committee last night was a
stark reminder that Trump Republicans engaged in a criminal conspiracy
with white supremacists and right-wing extremists to overturn the will
of the people on January 6, 2021 — and they aren’t done
trying.
In 2020, Bend the Arc took this threat seriously, mobilizing
communities across the country to successfully kick white nationalism
out of the White House and win control of Congress.
This year, while these crucial hearings continue, we’re
building the political power to hold politicians accountable and
advance multiracial democracy at the ballot box this
November.
Your
gift of $18 now will sustain our work for the upcoming elections and
beyond — donate before our end-of-fiscal-year deadline on June
30.
The investigations in Congress right now are only happening because
our movements turned out in record numbers and chose new leaders.
But here’s a reminder of what we’re up
against:
- Republican-led state legislatures continue to gut voting
rights across the country.
- Election deniers like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy are
working with Donald Trump to publicly undermine the Jan. 6
hearings.
- Right-wing politicians and pundits are spreading dangerous
lies like the "great replacement" conspiracy theory, which
motivated the shooter who targeted Black people in Buffalo, as well as
massacres in El Paso, Pittsburgh, Poway, and more.
Bend the Arc has a proven track record when it comes to confronting
and exposing those who are building a country only for themselves, and
we need your support to continue this critical fight.
Our
fiscal year ends on June 30, and the money we raise now will determine
our budget for the coming year to power our movement’s work
forward — give
$18 today.
Last night, Representative Bennie Thompson shared
this sobering reflection:
“I’m from a part of the country where
people justified the actions of slavery, the Ku Klux Klan, and
lynching. I’m reminded of that dark history as I hear voices today try
and justify the actions of the insurrectionists on January 6,
2021.”
His words confirm why we must continue working to build a country
free of white supremacy — one where Black liberation is truly
realized. Thank you for joining us in this fight.
Together,
The Bend the Arc team
