Hi John,
On Wednesday, 11-year-old Miah Cerrillo recounted to Congress the day she witnessed her teacher get shot and killed, the day she smeared her classmate's blood on herself and pretended to be dead.
Her father, Miguel Cerrillo, fought back tears as he explained how his once happy-go-lucky child is now traumatized and terrified to return to school.
John, what the fuck are we doing as a country?
To quote Miguel, "I wish something would change, not only for our kids, but for every kid in the world, because our schools are not safe anymore. Something needs to really change."
He is absolutely right.
Our leaders’ failure to address gun reform is an act of violence against children like Miah.
But we don't have to wait for the House, Senate, White House, or Supreme Court to act.
Right now, state and local officials HAVE to step up to keep our communities, our schools, and our children safe. Donate

State and local elected officials have a TON of power to curb gun violence. They can close background check loopholes, ban the sale of assault weapons in their state, create buy-back programs to get guns off the streets, and institute safety zones around schools — just to name a few things.
We know it works. California has some of the strongest gun laws in the country and the 7th lowest rate of gun violence. Many of their commonsense solutions started as city and county laws.
These laws save lives. We need more local elected officials at the helm to enact them.
If you're enraged and ready to take action, chip in
$5
right now to get more diverse young progressives elected who will do more than offer thoughts and prayers.
We owe it to Miah, to Miguel, and every single person who's been terrorized by gun violence.
