Friend,

The January 6 investigative committee just held its first public hearing, laying out a damning case against Donald Trump for inciting a riot to stop the peaceful constitutional transfer of power to Joe Biden, the duly elected president.

The evidence so far paints a clear and disturbing picture:
* Despite a total lack of evidence for the claim, Donald Trump spent weeks spreading the Big Lie that Joe Biden's rightful victory in the 2020 election was due to fraud.
* Trump whipped his supporters into a frenzy, culminating in a January 6 rally in Washington - Trump invited them, he incited them, and then he encouraged them to march on the Capitol.
* According to one eyewitness account, Trump "gleefully" watched news coverage on a White House TV as the attacks on the Capitol unfolded – even rewinding at times to watch certain moments again and again.
* For hours as the insurrection unfolded, Trump refused to issue a public statement calling on his violent supporters to stand down. On the day of the attack, there is a seven-hour gap in the White House telephone logs – a giant, lingering question mark over whom Trump was communicating with as the attacks unfolded and whether the Trump White House attempted to cover up that information.

This is just the first of six planned public hearings in which the committee will present findings from over 100,000 documents collected and more than 1,000 interviews conducted – including those with top Trump administration officials and members of Trump's own family.

But while the committee will continue its public hearings and deliver the truth that the American people deserve, CNN reports that Donald Trump and his supporters on Capitol Hill are waging an all-out defense to "protect" the former president during the hearings and launching a full-court press to discredit the hearings on Fox News and other right-wing media outlets.

Extremist Republicans will stop at nothing to defend their disgraced leader. We MUST raise our voices to ensure the GOP's spin efforts fall short and Trump is finally held accountable. In the wake of these hearings, we need to hear from grassroots Democrats like you loudly and clearly: Add your name immediately if you think that Donald Trump should be held accountable for his role in the Jan 6. insurrection.
