Blumenthal Shifts Inflation Blame After Voting in Favor of Wasteful Spending

GREENWICH, CT - Last year, Democrats overwhelmingly voted for Biden’s spending agenda promising to kickstart the economy and provide economic relief for families. Today, gas prices across the country hit record highs with some parts of the country hitting $5 and $6 a gallon.

Despite voting numerous times in support of the spending packages and in full support of Biden’s canceling the Keystone Pipeline, canceling leases and prohibiting all exploration for oil and gas on public land, Senator Dick Blumenthal is blaming rising gas prices on the oil companies. Republican candidate for Senate Leora Levy visited a gas station to call Blumenthal out for his hypocritical voting record and to draw attention to his lack of accountability for failing to pay attention to the priorities that affect Connecticut residents most.

Statement From Leora Levy on Rising Gas Prices:

“It is a shame that Connecticut families are paying the price for Senator Blumenthal’s voting record. Economists warned Washington leaders that pumping the economy with trillions of federal dollars would cause inflation and lead to hard-working families’ budgets being severely strained, but Democrats refused to listen. Now, gas prices in Connecticut have reached $5, even $6 in some parts of the state with no signs of slowing down.

"While families are debating whether they can afford to take their annual summer vacation, Blumenthal is trying to save face and his reputation by shifting the blame from politicians to the oil companies. Frankly, his rubber stamp on Biden’s economy-killing policies led to rising gas prices well before Putin’s invasion. And if the solution in Biden-Blumenthal world is to beg Venezuela, Iran and Saudi Arabia to increase the world supply of oil by producing more oil, why not produce more oil right here in the USA? We have the largest reserves of oil in the world and produce it more cleanly. Plus, it will create more high-paying American jobs! This oil crisis and crisis-level inflation is self-inflicted! It did not have to happen. It is the result of bad policy driven by mistaken ideologues who just don’t care who they hurt and whose American Dreams they destroy in pursuit of their green dreams.

"We need new leadership in Washington who actually understands economics and markets to stand up for energy independence and say no to reckless spending and reliance on foreign oil. When I am elected to the Senate, I will be a voice for families and not the liberal special interest groups that continue to financially support my opponent. Families need real relief at the gas pump, not more deceptive election year gimmicks.”
