Earlier this year, Donald Trump’s federal budget attempted unsuccessfully to cut $2 trillion from critical programs, including food assistance for low-income families. Now, they’re trying to skip the legislative process with a new rule at the USDA―slicing $4.5 billion over the next five years from SNAP (formerly known as food stamps).
SNAP plays a critical role in addressing hunger and food insecurity in our communities. We must fight this new round of disastrous proposed cuts.
Submit an official comment today to the USDA to reject the Trump administration’s proposed rule change that would cut the SNAP benefits of 7 million Americans.
SNAP is the first line of defense against hunger for low-income people―and we must stand together, today, and tell the Trump administration: No, don’t pay for tax cuts for the rich by taking food away from America’s poorest families.
So far, 57,364 comments have been submitted opposing this underhanded USDA rule change.
Together, we must stop the USDA from undermining SNAP through another new rule change. If you haven’t already, take a moment today and make your opposition to these disastrous cuts crystal clear.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is the largest nutrition assistance program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SNAP effectively reaches vulnerable people across our country―the large majority are children, seniors, and people with disabilities.[1]
