Today, Immigration Equality and Lambda Legal sued Trump’s State Department for stripping the citizenship of a same-sex married couple's one-year-old baby girl.
Derek Mize and Jonathan Gregg are U.S. citizens whose daughter, Simone, was born via surrogacy in England. Denied her rightful citizenship, she is now living in the U.S. on a nearly-expired tourist visa. The law clearly states that since Derek and Jonathan are married, Simone is a U.S. citizen from birth. The government’s policy is cruel and unconstitutional, and we will fight back in court until we win.
Love is love, and family is family. That is not just our belief, it is the law. For as long as it takes, we will pursue justice and equality for all LGBTQ families. It is our duty and our mission.
