John,

This weekend, Philly residents were shaken by more senseless gun violence, a trend that is all too familiar in our city and across the country. This issue deserves the urgency and attention of ALL of our elected officials.

That's why I proudly voted the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act and the Protecting Our Kids Act through the House this week.

This legislation would temporarily prohibit dangerous individuals from accessing firearms and raise the legal age to purchase certain semi-automatic rifles. It would also crack down on gun trafficking and ban ghost guns, bump stocks, and high-capacity magazines — policies that experts say would help to deter gun violence significantly.

Some politicians continue to make the false and outrageous suggestion that equipping more people with guns is the solution to ending these horrendous acts. It's time we stop Republicans and a minority of voters from sidelining life-saving legislation and take action NOW.

Join me in calling on the Senate to immediately bring this necessary and life-saving gun safety legislation to a vote. Add your name to tell the Senate that it’s past time to act.

The people have spoken, and we refuse to allow gun violence to go on unchecked. I won't stop fighting to reduce gun violence in our city and across our country because everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes, parks, schools, and neighborhoods.

In solidarity,

Dwight Evans
