Dear John,
Tonight, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol begins a series of eight public hearings.
The committee has spent a year collecting evidence, interviewing more than 800 witnesses, and putting the pieces together to figure out who planned the brutal assault that killed five and wounded 140 police officers, as well as the role played by Donald Trump and members of Congress.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, one of the committee members, has said that the evidence they've uncovered will "blow the roof off the House." But for this committee to really have an impact, we need to make sure everyday Americans hear and understand what has been uncovered.
John, we can't let this be like the Mueller report, which included more than enough evidence to impeach Trump but was so long, meandering, and inconclusive that most Americans who don't obsessively follow politics simply tuned out.
We cannot let America tune out.
That's why, as the hearings are taking place, the team at Inequality Media Civic Action will be working overtime to collect the most explosive revelations and testimony and put them together into brief, shareable video explainers for social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. That way, we can make sure everyone hears the truth, even those who don't have the time — or the attention spans — to watch from gavel to gavel.
But producing and distributing this much high-quality content in such a compressed timeline requires resources. So I'm asking you to make a special donation to help support our work and get the truth about January 6 to the American people.
Let's face it: Most working people are too busy with life, jobs, and family to watch hours of congressional hearings. And as a teacher, I can guarantee you that young people are not going to sit still that long without checking their phones and getting distracted.
That's why Inequality Media Civic Action has spent years building an audience of millions across social media — and honing our skills at producing substantive video content that people will watch, including in their spare minutes while standing in line or waiting for the bus.
The traitors who stormed the Capitol must be held accountable. Trump must be held accountable. Members of Congress who provoked, incited, and aided the rioters must be held accountable. The House Select Committee hearings promise to do just that — but it'll only work if people see and understand the mountain of evidence they've compiled.
Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help us use social media to get the truth uncovered by the January 6 Select Committee out to the American people?
Thank you for helping defend our fragile democracy,
Robert Reich
