John,

Last week, House Republicans unveiled their plan for addressing the energy crisis and combating climate change. As anyone could have guessed, it falls woefully short.

Not only did the so-called Energy, Climate, and Conservation Task Force’s plan fail to mention the word “climate” once , its answer to fighting back against climate change is to promote more oil and gas production!

Instead of proposing real action to stem the tide of global warming, House Republicans want to accelerate our trajectory towards a climate apocalypse. We need to elect more pro-environment champions to Congress to make sure our climate policy is suited for the challenge. The GOP’s “climate plan” is anything but that. It begins with a call to “Restore Energy Dominance,” a phrase coined by former President Donald Trump, who called climate change a “Chinese Hoax'' on several occasions. It proposes nothing to actually halt the warming of the planet except promoting hydropower, which, while better than oil and gas, is insufficient to reduce our emissions reduction goals.

We would love to talk through the plan further, point-by-point, but it is so devoid of details, that there really is barely anything else to say. So don’t be fooled by news reports that claim House Republicans have released a “climate plan.” This is simply greenwashing. Nothing more.

The only silver lining is that Republicans are clearly feeling the pressure that they at least need to pay lip service to these issues. That shows that our movement is making them scared. But words aren’t enough. We need climate action now.

John, the only way we are going to see decisive action taken against climate change on the federal level is by supporting our SEEC Members in Congress and electing more pro-clean energy allies to send to Washington alongside them. Can you donate right now to help us elect more environmental champions to Congress? [[link removed]]

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
