Tonight marks the beginning of the January 6 House Select Committee’s first public hearings. Soon, we will hopefully gain a clearer picture of the events of last year’s deadly insurrection — as we continue to pursue truth, justice, and accountability.

As my colleagues in the other chamber prepare for what’s to come tonight, the stakes in November are clear.

MAGA Republicans are running pro-insurrection candidates across the map — and whoever comes out victorious in the various Republican Senate primaries will have Mitch McConnell's support, along with his personally-aligned Super PAC that has already committed to spending $141 million in battleground races.

We defeated Trump, but Trumpism is still the animating force of the GOP — and we need to defeat it again this November to preserve our Senate majority, and perhaps our democracy along with it.

I’m doing everything I can to protect and expand our fragile Senate majority and safeguard our democracy — but I can’t fight alone. So before tonight’s hearings begin, I’m asking: Will you chip in to support this work?

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Fox News and far-right media outlets will distort the truth of these hearings. They’ll do whatever they can to rile up their right-wing base and obscure the facts of this dark day in our nation’s history.

But we can’t defeat dishonesty with more lies. We need truth, and we need decency. And to keep those values in Congress, we can’t afford to lose our Democratic Senate majority to Mitch McConnell.
