The public hearings on the January 6th attack begin this week. January 6th was a failed coup attempt. We can’t sugarcoat it. Congress must deliver real accountability.
Those who attacked the country’s Capitol on January 6th were motivated by Donald Trump’s Big Lie that the election was stolen. In Washington, I am fighting back against the Big Lie and defeating those who enable it. When a group filed a frivolous lawsuit pushing a baseless conspiracy theory in an effort to undermine confidence in our election integrity, we defeated them in court – and held them accountable for attacking the foundation of our democracy.
At my request, the State Supreme Court forced this organization and their attorney to repay Washington taxpayers for the cost of defeating their lawsuit. They must pay tens of thousands of dollars. We have also forwarded a complaint to the Washington State Bar Association, so they can take further action against this attorney.
When failed gubernatorial candidate Loren Culp echoed Trump’s Big Lie and sued to overturn an election he lost by nearly 500,000 votes, I warned him that I would seek sanctions if he did not immediately drop his lawsuit. He withdrew his lawsuit the next day and is prohibited from refilling.
We must fight back against these attacks. We cannot take our democracy for granted. Add your name today to urge Congress to take action against those involved in January 6th.
