Friends,
After yet another horrific mass shooting that stole the lives of 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, the need for legislation to end the epidemic of gun violence and protect our kids is more apparent than ever.
For years, GOP and gun lobby obstruction has prevented us from taking meaningful action to end this nightmare. But yesterday, my colleagues in the House passed the Protect Our Kids Act to help ensure our children can live their lives without fear of falling victim to gun violence.
Throughout my time as a Member of Congress, I have advocated to ban high-capacity magazines, fund gun violence research, and mandate background checks for firearm possession. This bill goes even further to protect our children by:

Raising
the
age
limit
for
purchasing
a
semi-automatic
rifle
from
18
to
21;
*
Establishing
requirements
to
encourage
the
safe
storage
of
firearms;
*
Closing
the
ghost
gun
loophole;
and
much
more.
“Thoughts and prayers” will not stop the next school shooting, but the Protect Our Kids Act will. By passing this bill, we took definitive action to rein in gun violence and ensure that no community experiences the horror and pain of Uvalde, Parkland, or Sandy Hook ever again.
Common-sense solutions to prevent gun violence work, and while the bill will have a tough hill to climb in order to pass through the Senate, I believe this is our moment to put a stop to this ongoing tragedy once and for all. Until the safety of our children is guaranteed, I promise you I will continue to fight for our kids.
