Hey Friend – I’m Lucy, one of the campaign advisors here at New Politics. Before I joined the team I used to work with 8th graders as an AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow. They were smart and funny, talented and growing, and always full of questions. I loved my job, but I felt my capacity to help them pursue their dreams was limited.
So on the hunt for a new way to make myself useful I found the New Politics Leadership Academy program, ‘Answering the Call’ – I immediately enrolled.
Thanks to NPLA’s program, I found my answer: service through politics. So I began working on campaigns for servant leaders who were dedicated to putting country before party to ensure a brighter future for our kids.
The opportunity to coach, support, train, and advise a dozen candidates simultaneously is a unique opportunity. I wake up knowing that I'm working to elect candidates who are going to do right by my 8th graders and ensure that they can access the opportunities they deserve.
We need to expand our advisor network so more people like me can make an impact in our targeted races nationwide.
To be honest, I'm worried that our country is about to backslide by electing more anti-democratic politicians. Our broken system still does not know how to best allocate resources to support transformational leaders who are ready to fight for change, not personal interests.
That’s why I’m so proud to support the candidates we endorse here at New Politics – they are running to put everything aside and serve their communities. Whether our candidates gained these skills through military service, AmeriCorp programs or other community leadership programs, campaign advisors (like me) help these transformational leaders take the leap to serve our country as political leaders.
