As mothers, our hearts are broken by the recent tragedies in Buffalo, Uvalde, and countless others. As advocates, we are more committed than ever to face the crisis of gun violence in our country. That’s why we’re reaching out to you today. We'd like to share our story. 

Both of us started our activism at Moms Demand Action in the aftermath of Sandy Hook. We knew it was going to take all of us coming together to enact the commonsense public safety measures we need to solve this crisis – and we were desperate to make a difference for the sake of our families and our neighbors. 

As we continued to serve, we became leaders in the movement for gun violence prevention and for safe, thriving communities. We realized that the volunteer advocacy movement cannot succeed alone. Instead, it must be backed by political will and real policy change – and that requires a transformation in political leadership. 

That’s why we both joined Emerge as Executive Directors in our states, helping to power that political transformation. When out-of-touch leaders aren't taking the necessary steps, Emerge women know how to make our communities safer. So we’re personally committed to growing our nationwide sisterhood by recruiting, training, and electing the Democratic women stepping up for our communities every day. 

We have over 1,000 Emerge alums in office right now, in addition to the 52 alums who just won their primary elections in May. These women are running for office at every level to become the state legislators, governors, and other officials we need to enact transformative policies close to home. But it’s going to take the full support of this community to build momentum nationwide and sweep the elections this November.
