Friend,
Today, the Texas House Investigative Committee on The Robb Elementary Shooting in Uvalde is meeting, and unfortunately, I’m not too hopeful for the outcome.
So many institutional failures led to the tragedy that occurred at Robb Elementary. We know that our state’s dangerous gun laws and the negligent response from law enforcement are to blame. But Texas Republicans want to make this a mental health issue.
Yet Texas Republicans have shown that they care just as much about mental health as they do about gun safety -- not at all. This year alone, Abbott has slashed $211 million from mental health services in Texas, ranking us dead last in access to mental healthcare among every state.
Friend, don’t be fooled by this tired talking point about mental health. Texas Republicans are just trying to shift the blame off who it should really be on -- themselves. It’s clear that they have no interest in expanding access to mental healthcare, but you’ll find them continuing to expand access to guns.
Please consider making this a monthly contribution. If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Don’t get me wrong, we need expanded access to mental healthcare in our state. But that’s not enough -- we need life-saving gun violence prevention legislation too. We won’t get either as long as Republicans are in charge. friend, it’s time for a change.
In service and hope,
