Fulfillment Fund

June 2022 Newsletter

“When one chapter closes, another begins” is a phrase we often hear at graduation. As we watch our high school and college seniors prepare for their commencements, we realize in their smiles and enthusiasm that this is indeed just the beginning of a journey powered by hopes and dreams.

Our College Access team is helping high school seniors with any pending paperwork to finalize college enrollment and facilitating their transition to our College Success Program through Fulfillment Fund University, our summer bridge initiative. The College Success team is enjoying an overload of appreciation from their recent or soon-to-be college grads, receiving emails and text messages with grad photos and gratitude, while helping them look toward the next phase of their journey — their careers.

While college graduation marks an important milestone for Fulfillment Fund students, it’s not the destination in and of itself. Rather, it’s the first step in pursuing career fields that provides greater opportunity for upward mobility. When we speak to our students about what’s next, we are inspired by their pursuit of a brighter future through the doors that have opened as a result of their higher education. Grounded in their family’s story, they reflect on the growth they have already experienced, and their ambition remains strong.

Congratulations to all of our 2022 graduates! We are proud of you for reaching this milestone and for everything you will accomplish.

See Our Impact in 2021

The 2020-21 school year was the first fully virtual year of school in the history of LAUSD and many universities across the country. Nevertheless, Fulfillment Fund supported nearly 500 more students than the previous year, serving a total of 3,253 high school and college students. Check out our 2021 Annual Report and look back on everything we accomplished thanks to your support.

Elevating Voices for Education

Last week the CA Senate Education Committee voted to protect students from losing financial aid when they are awarded hard-earned scholarships. Fulfillment Fund joined peer organizations in this advocacy effort to improve the educational experience for students from historically marginalized communities. Read more about the bill.

First Semester Back In Class ✔

Returning to school was tough for students, dealing with increased academic expectations from their classes, wearing masks for an entire day, and adjusting to routine school protocols. The shift back to in-person learning meant our Programs team could capture many of the lost interactions in the virtual environment. Read our newest blog on insights from the classroom.
