Last week was jam-packed with events across Chester and Berks Counties. I wanted to share more about our work and upcoming events in this week's update. Here's a quick look: - Hosted Secretary of Commerce Raimondo at Vishay Intertechnology to talk STEM education, reducing our nation's reliance on China, and fixing our supply chain challenges.
- Joined Governor Tom Wolf to announce a $1.75 million investment in ByHeart, an infant formula manufacturing facility in Reading.
- Hosted Administrator Guzman from the Small Business Administration (SBA) to discuss support for local entrepreneurs and small business owners.
- Helped a local family get home to Reading after they fled Ukraine following Russia's invasion.
- Announced our upcoming Telephone Townhall, next Thursday, June 16th to discuss gun violence prevention.
Serving as our representative is the honor of my lifetime, and I hope to hear from you soon about what are your priorities. As always, please contact my office if you need assistance.

Last Tuesday, I hosted U.S Commerce Secretary Raimondo for a tour of Vishay Intertechnology, a global manufacturer of semiconductors based in Malvern. Given the worldwide shortage of semiconductors, and the innovation happening right here in our community, I invited Secretary Raimondo to see firsthand how one of our companies and its talented workforce are helping. Before our tour, we discussed my work on the Bipartisan Innovation Act (BIA), inclusivity in STEM education through legislation like my RESTART Act, and how these and other measures will improve our supply chain challenges and lower inflation through legislation like my RESTART Act.
Our Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is home to world-class research universities and industrial facilities. It is directly impacted by government expenditures in the semiconductor sector. As an engineer, I am glad to be an advocate for women and girls in our workforce, especially in unrepresented fields. The BIA will help these businesses and institutions.

Every day, and especially at times of vulnerability and crisis, we MUST do better for our parents and children. I was happy to have joined Governor Tom Wolf, First Lady Frances Wolf, Senator Judy Schwank, and others last Wednesday in announcing a $1.75 million investment to expand ByHeart’s infant formula manufacturing facility. This facility, located right in our community and just outside of the city of Reading, is our country's newest infant formula producer! Not only will the production help to solve our infant formula shortage, but it will also create good-paying jobs, and use milk from our PA dairy farms. I am proud to support their efforts with our local and state partners.

Coatesville is a vibrant and rapidly growing part of our community. It is also a federally recognized Opportunity Zone. So, when SBA Administrator Guzman accepted my invitation to visit our district, I immediately wanted to take her to Coatesville! Our visit started with a roundtable conversation with leaders of the various chambers of commerce in Chester and Berks counties. Administrator Guzman shared some of the newest resources available for entrepreneurs, and the small business leaders shared their perspectives on challenges and opportunities due to the COVID pandemic. Access to capital for start-ups and the need for affordable child care were top of mind in the discussion as women and minorities have been disproportionately impacted by COVID.
I am also proud that Pennsylvania has nearly 360,000 women-owned enterprises, which is the seventh-highest state total in the nation. That is why I'm thrilled that my legislation to improve transparency in SBA contracts with women-owned firms has passed the House with bipartisan support. I will continue to encourage diverse entrepreneurship in any manner I can.

After Putin invaded Ukraine, Jose and Tetyana Class sought sanctuary with strangers in Germany and Poland. Jose, a Berks County native and Reading resident, had the necessary documents to return safely to the United States. Sadly, Tetyana's paperwork was accidentally left behind in Ukraine. In the months that followed, the Class family reached out to my office, and we successfully assisted Tetyana in obtaining a visa. Stories like this make me proud of the work that my office and I do in service to our community, Commonwealth, and country. Welcome home, Class family!

This has been a devastating time for our community and country due to gun violence. In response to so many who have reached out to our office to share their frustrations and concerns, I'm hosting a Gun Violence Prevention Telephone Town Hall next week on Thursday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m.

We will have several panelists to answer your questions, including Chester County Sherriff Fredda Maddox and Moms Demand Action's Pennsylvania Chapter lead Erin Buchner, and Exec. Director of Chester County Intermediate Unit Dr. George Fiore. I'll give an update on my work in the Problem Solvers Caucus to advance commonsense legislation to safeguard our schools, communities, and country.
